Distinguished Service Award
About the Award
The AIM Distinguished Service Award recognizes an AIM member who has made significant contributions to the field of administration of academic internal medicine. The award is presented at the Annual AIM Educational Conference, which is held in conjunction with Academic Internal Medicine Week.
Nomination Criteria
The candidate:
- Must have significantly contributed to the profession of administration of internal medicine, either by scholarly activity that advances the knowledge base or best practices, by role model leadership in the profession, and by fostering collegiality among our membership.
- Must be a current or former AIM member.
- Must be nominated by any current AAIM charter association member (AIM, APDIM, APM, ASP, CDIM).
Nomination Package
Nominations must be submitted online.
Self-nominations are not accepted.
A nomination package must include:
- A completed nomination form.
- One nomination letter.
Selection Process
The AIM Nominating Committee will review the completed nominations and recommend a recipient to the AIM Council for final approval. All nominations will be considered for the year they are nominated as well as the following two years.

2019 AIM Awards Recipients
2019 AIM Distinguished Service Award: Sheri L. Lawrence, MBA, CMPE
The 2019 AIM Distinguished Service Award recipient is Sheri L. Lawrence, MBA, CMPE. The AIM Distinguished Service Award recognizes an AIM member who has made significant contributions to the field of administration of academic internal medicine. The award is presented annually at Academic Internal Medicine Week.
An active member of AIM since 2012, Ms. Lawrence has served as a member of the AIM Education Committee and the AIM Nominating Committee. She has also served as the chair of the AIM Program Planning Committee from 2015-2018. In this role, she led the committee in the restructuring of the Alliance meeting calendar, as well as combining programmatic goals with those of the ASP to create joint plenary sessions. According to her nominators, “She shares her expertise as a departmental administrator during council and cross-council meetings, has provided mentorship to other AIM members, and demonstrates problem-solving creativity.”
Ms. Lawrence is described as someone who “warmly welcomed new members to AIM, took ideas forward for further discussion and resolution, and supported her colleagues when they needed help.” She is considered a role model and mentor to other AIM members.
Sheri Lawrence is Administrator in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
