USMLE Score Reporting

USMLE Score Reporting Recommendations from InCUS Now Available

The preliminary recommendations for USMLE score reporting—based on the March 2019 Invitational Conference on USMLE Scoring—are now posted online.

  • Reduce the adverse impact of the current overemphasis on USMLE performance in residency screening and selection through consideration of changes such as pass/fail scoring.
  • Accelerate research on the correlation of USMLE performance to measures of residency performance and clinical practice.
  • Minimize racial demographic differences that exist in USMLE performance.
  • Convene a cross-organizational panel to create solutions for the assessment and transition challenges from UME to GME, targeting an approved proposal, including scope/timelines by end of calendar year 2019.

The comment period is open until July 26, 2019. AAIM has three task forces in progress to inform the discussion and develop a central, unified statement in response to the recommendations. Members are also encouraged to share their individual opinions through the online comment process.
