How long have you been a member of AAIM?

I’m really not sure, but likely at least since 1998 or 1999 when I became APD at the University of Pittsburgh and starting going to APDIM/AAIM meetings.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Mentoring, advising, and sharing in the career development of students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty, and having peers around who do the same to me.

How has the AAIM membership been of value to you and your career?

I cannot begin to say. I have always, from early on in my career when I was still not sure where I was going, found an academic home at AAIM, especially at APDIM but then also at CDIM when I was curriculum dean. I have always found my “peeps” there, like-minded educators, dedicated to developing great physicians of tomorrow, with an academic bent and always there to help out with ACGME issues and other challenges we faced in GME and UME. As an APD and PD I got so much help and support from co-APDs and PDs.  AAIM also served as one of the initial vehicles for me to do workshops and presentations which helped my career develop its academic focus. I learned so much at every meeting including about career development which I continue to pay forward (I hope).
